How to Write an Article About a Topic That You Know Absolutely Nothing About

First of all, let me tell you this: I don’t recommend you write an article about a topic that you know nothing about. Though, I know that sometimes you may need to do this.

It is apparent that, there are people who can create really high quality articles about topics they are totally a stranger, in a short time. This is a skill that’s developed in time with practice and experience. So, hearing claims such as “Give me any keyword and I’ll write a 300-words high quality article around it in less than 30 minutes.” shouldn’t surprise you.

Writing is a skill that is built and developed over time with more and more practice. If you keep writing and follow the ones who are good at it, your writing will become better eventually.

If you want to write quality articles in any topic, you need to start with exercising it on subjects that you are familiar to. By doing so, you will build your own style of writing and your writing speed will increase too.

Once you are comfortable with the articles you’ve written, submit them to article directories and see if they will approve them. Approval will be a measure of feedback. Furthermore, it is also a good idea to ask your friends or others to review your articles. Take all the feedback you can and adjust your articles accordingly.

At some point, you will feel confident enough to write about things that you know less about. Try writing on some subtopics that you will not need to do further research to write. It will be slightly difficult at the beginning, but when you start writing, it will flow naturally and you will not know when you are finished a 400-words article.

The next step is to write about topics that you will need to do a little research to be able to compose an article. For those kind of stuff, make a preliminary research and try to base your article around a question related to the subject or make a list of items to write about.

A how-to article will be easy to start with. for example, “How to register a domain name?” or “How to install a wordpress blog?”. You will be able to find a great deal of information on how-to subjects on the internet.

Another type of article to start with is a list of items like “7 things to keep in mind before starting a web business” or “Simple steps to build a wonderful garden”. The idea here is to split the article body into smaller parts and complete it step by step. In a short time, you will notice how fast you’ve become in writing.

Finally, and the hardest one, we come to the topics that you know nothing about and the ones that you hear for the first time. Anyone can write crappy content about anything, however, as a wannabe quality article writer, we are after quality content here.

To accomplish this, you will need to do more research and will be reading until you get to a point that you learnt enough to start writing. For some topics, this may take hours, yet for some others, this may take days or even weeks. And for some specific ones like extremely detailed medical subjects or engineering trends, which will require professional background, you may not be able to write at all. That’s fine, hey, you don’t need to write about everything right?

From now on, I will post niche ideas on different topics that I come across on various sources like Google Trends, Amazon Bestsellers, Shopping Top Searches and some others. These will not be the result of a detailed niche research, it will be a topic just to give you an idea. You can find the “niche idea of the day” box on the sidebar to the right of the homepage. I am not sure if I will be able to update it on a daily basis, however, I will try to update it as much as possible.

I know that one of the most common challenges a newbie faces is to find the right niche. With “niche idea of the day”, I am aiming to show alternatives to those who struggle finding niches. I want you to think out of the box. I am aware that most of the beginners try to target the mighty Internet Marketing niche at first, and not many of them succeed in this niche apparently. This is because people who know about internet marketing are not an easy market that is full of people ready to buy.

You can’t sell an IM related product to an internet marketing guy unless you really know what you are doing. Because they are skeptical, they know how to search and find information on the internet. They will not buy something unless they really need it. However, it will be much easier to sell something like a video game to someone who is already searching for it to buy.

I am not telling you to stay away the IM niche, what I mention is that you need to target other niches as well, to sharpen your marketing and affiliate skills.

So, think out of the IM box and look for what ordinary people, the non-IM-guys, search and buy online, whether it is a book, a shoe, an ipod, an engagement ring or whatsoever.

7 Things to Consider While Choosing a Profitable Niche

Everything starts with a niche. A properly chosen niche can make you rich, on the other hand, a bad choice can suck all the money in your pocket. And the truth is that one of the biggest difficulties a newbie faces is to find a winner niche.

There is no way to tell if a niche will be profitable for you unless you take action on it. However, there are things to consider that will increase the chance, before even trying. This post will be about a list of 7 things that you should keep in mind while choosing a profitable niche.

Let’s begin with the first one.

1. Are there any info products related to that niche?

Believe me, if there is at least one info product about that niche, the monetization of that niche will be easy. Let me explain what I mean by an info product. If for example a digital camera is a product for the digital photography niche, then, an ebook on “how to master your skills as a digital photographer” would be an info product. The idea is simple that, nobody would have written an info product on a non-profitable niche. The more info products, the better. You could check ebook directories or simply use search engines to find out if there is an info product on a niche.

2. Are there any advertisers?

Why do you never see any advertisements on some certain tought-to-be niches? Because the possibility to monetize that kind of niches are close to zero. An advertiser is a person who either sells or promotes something related to that niche and willing to pay money for that. If not earning money themselves, no advertiser would pay for advertising. So, the more advertisers on a niche, the better. Check Google, Yahoo! or Bing to find out if there is any ads.

3. Are there any affiliate programs?

A niche with an affiliate program means one thing: There is money to be made on that niche. Some niches have dozens of affiliate programs, however, it is difficult to find even one for some niches. What you need to do is to search affiliate networks or affiliate program directories. The more affiliate programs, the better. 4. The amount of searches and competition.

There are literally tons of tools, free or paid, to check the amount of searches and level of competition for a niche, or keyword. Some of them are good, some of them are not. This is not the topic of this post though. What I want to mention here is, the more the search amount -the demand-, the better. When it comes to competition, it is all up to your knowledge and amount of effort you plan to invest, whether high competition is good or bad. Yet, it is certain that high competition will not be good for you if you can not be highly competitive. So, it would be wise for a newbie to go after low competition and high amount of search at the beginning, as much as possible.

5. Is the niche about solving a problem?

Think about the statements below for a moment.

“My boss sends me to Japan for a one year period, but I can not speak Japan, how will I communicate to people when I am off work?”

“No matter what I tried I can not get my ex boyfriend back.”

“I don’t know what to do about my acnes.”

“I would pay a fortune to a software that could bring my deleted files back.”

As you can notice, all the sentences above, state a problem. And there are lots of products, info products, advertisers and affiliate programs targeting those niches. What makes a problem-based niche more profitable is the fact that people do not hesitate spending money on the solution of their problems. The bigger the problem, the better.

6. Are there any blogs/forums about this specific niche?

Blogs and forums are the proof that there is a community established around that niche. It will be much easier to learn more about the niche and find followers and promote anything related to the niche, if there are a number of blogs and forums. The more the better.

7. Do you have any passion or knowledge on the niche?

Some say that it is crucial to have some passion or knowledge on the niche you will target. I agree on that to some extent. In fact, the whole process might be a lot easier, if you had knowledge on the niche. However, if you work smart, there is no niche that you can’t be an authority in time.

“Dog Training” is Not a Niche Anymore

I bet anyone related to internet marketing somehow, have heard about the famous dog training niche. I can name a hundred ebooks which give that very niche as an example. I just don’t get it. Why do people keep giving the same ancient example although there are millions and millions of niches around. I am sure dog training was a profitable niche years ago, but not today, not for the newbies. Same about the weight loss and make money niches.

Take my word my friend, those are not niches as some ebook authors claim. Those are mega niches which have hundreds of sub-niches that have thousands of micro niches within. And those examples are one of the reasons for newbies struggle choosing a profitable niche. Once they see that dog training niche example, they try go after some mega niches like free software, web hosting or game downloads. That’s the point why they fail at the beginning.

It is close to impossible for a beginner to dominate one of the mega niches mentioned above. I am not saying it is undoable, I say it is not worth the effort, because it will take years to dominate those mega niches. Ask yourself if you are the type of person who would work hard, put enormous effort and be patient enough to wait the amount of return of investment in years to come. And note that no matter how hard you work, it is not guaranteed that you will dominate a mega niche, since a huge number of people -who knows what they are doing- will be working on it too.

Knowing that the sole purpose of a beginner is to make money as soon as possible, it will be most wise to start with a micro niche, which is easier to dominate.

So, what’s a niche, a sub-niche and a micro niche? I will try to give an example to clarify this. As we talked above, web hosting is a mega niche. Here, dedicated web hosting is a niche and linux dedicated web hosting is a sub-niche. So, a micro niche for this example could be cheap linux dedicated web hosting. If you roughly have 1,000,000 competitors for the mega niche, you will have 100,000 competitors for the niche, you will have 10,000 competitions for the sub-niche and you will have 1,000 competitors for the micro niche.

This is the methodolgy of choosing a profitable micro niche. And keep it in mind if you search for a niche to dominate in a short time.
